El Ministerio del Interior paraguayo confirmó que lograron interceptar a parte de la banda que asaltó con un arsenal militar un local de Prosegur en Ciudad del Este. En el golpe se llevaron millones de dólares. Hasta el momento, hay tres asaltantes muertos y cuatro detenidos.
La persecución comenzó en Brasil, en Itaipulandia, donde los asaltantes llegaron en dos embarcaciones tipos lancha desde Ciudad del Este. Las detenciones se produjeron en Foz de Iguazú. Según la radio ABC Cardinal, algunos de los criminales tomaron de rehén a una familia en territorio brasileño y estarían negociando su liberación.

La Policía paraguaya informó que entre 50 y 60 supuestos miembros del cártel narco Primer Comando de la Capital (PCC) fuertemente armados mataron a un policía e hirieron a otro oficial y a tres civiles en el robo, ocurrido durante la medianoche del domingo en Ciudad del Este, segunda urbe de Paraguay y fronteriza con Brasil.

Los atracadores utilizaron una decena de vehículos en el asalto, uno de ellos, un camión para transportar elementos de apoyo (hombres y explosivos). Tras el ataque, los asaltantes se dieron a la fuga y abandonaron esos vehículos en la vecina ciudad de Hernandarias. En los autos, las autoridades encontraron chalecos antibalas, explosivos en gel y cuatro cargadores de fusiles de asalto AK 47.
Además incendiaron 19 vehículos particulares, entre ellos varios de la firma española Prosegur, desde los cuales repelieron a los efectivos policiales que fueron llegando a la sede de la empresa.
La Policía Nacional paraguaya no confirmó el monto que pudo haber sido robado, aunque los medios de Ciudad del Este manejan la cifra de entre 20 y 40 millones de dólares.
La empresa todavía no se ha pronunciado y anunció que emitirá un comunicado a lo largo del día.
