La isla de Kiritimati, en el océano Pacífico, al noroeste de Australia, es la primera región habitada del mundo en ingresar al 2018, y esto aconteció hoy a las 7 de la mañana de Argentina, acorde a los husos horarios establecidos por el Tiempo Medio de Greenwich (GMT).
En tanto, los últimos en llegar a 2018 serán los pobladores de la isla de Hawai, ubicada al norte de la Polinesia, junto con otras islas del Pacífico, que lo harán 7 horas después, respecto de Argentina.
Eran las 7 de hoy en Argentina, cuando los 5 mil habitantes de esta pequeña isla de 642 kilómetros cuadrados, ubicada en el estado de Kiribati, a 232 kilómetros por encima de la línea del Ecuador, comenzaron a celebrar el Año Nuevo.
Para esta fecha, suelen llegar gran cantidad de turistas que buscan vivir la experiencia de ser los primeros en celebrar el comienzo de año, luego de que la isla se hiciera famosa hace 18 años por ser los primeros en iniciar el milenio.
Kirimati, considerada un paraíso natural, llamada también «Christmas» o «Natividad», fue descubierta el 24 de diciembre de 1777 por navegantes británicos que realizaban expediciones por la región.
La diferencia horaria con Argentina es de 17 horas ya que la isla se encuentra en el Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +14 y nuestro país -3.
